What is Honister Slate Mine?
Honister Slate Mine is England’s last working slate mine, located at the head of Honister Pass in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria.
The mine has a long and exciting history, dating back to the 17th century when the local population began to extract slate from the surrounding hills.
As well as producing high-quality Westmorland Green Slate, Honister offers a range of guided tours and adrenaline-fuelled indoor and outdoor adventure activities, making it the perfect day out for families in the Lake District.

Honister offers an exciting range of indoor and outdoor adventure activities for all ages and abilities.
Activities include:
Via Ferrata Classic: Visitors can climb the side of Fleetwith Pike using fixed iron cables and ladders, providing a thrilling and safe experience for all skill levels.
Via Ferrata Xtreme: The Xtreme version of the Via Ferrata is a more challenging and demanding climb, including overhang descents, a Burma bridge, vertical ladder climbs and sky ladders – this Lake District experience is not for the faint of heart.
Climb the Mine: Experience the ultimate underground adventure, where you’ll journey through winding passages and old mining caverns. Participants can enjoy thrilling obstacles along the way, like rope bridges, zip lines, ladders, and Tarzan swings.
Canyoning: Canyoning at Honister is an exciting outdoor adventure activity that involves exploring a mountainous gorge by traversing through it using a combination of techniques such as climbing, abseiling, jumping, and swimming.
The Infinity Bridge: A suspension bridge over a 1,000ft drop that provides spectacular views of the Lake District.
Underground Mine Tour: Visitors can explore the fascinating world of a working slate mine and learn about the history and techniques used to extract slate.

Who is the Affiliate Program for?
The Honister Affiliate Program is designed for any accommodation provider, including hotels, B&Bs, Air B&Bs and hostels, who want to offer their guests unique and exciting experiences during their stay. The program is ideal for the staff and owners of these accommodations, who can earn a 10% commission on every booking and take advantage of the discount for their family and friends.
How does it work?
The Affiliate Program is simple and easy to use. Once you sign up, you will be given your unique log in details to access the Affiliate portal.
Once logged in, you’ll see the activities and availability calendar. Simply select the activity, date and time to suit your guest and enter their name and email address.
Your guest will be sent an instant email with a secure payment link. They then have 10 minutes to complete their booking and pay.
What is included in the Honister Affiliate Program?
- A day out at Honister Slate Mine for yourself and one other person to enjoy a complimentary Mine Tour and one other activity of your choice
- Access to Honister’s Affiliate Booking System to enable you to book your guests onto activities in return for 10% commission on each booking
- Marketing materials, including brochures and posters to use in your accommodation to showcase the range of outdoor adventures available to them at Honister
- Access to your own account showing a monthly running total of any commission earned
How much can I earn?
As a Honister Affiliate, you will earn a 10% commission on every successful booking. Activity prices range from £17.50 to £160 per person, with an average booking value of £140, making it an attractive option for those looking to earn an extra income stream.
How is the commission paid to me?
The commission is only confirmed once the guest has booked, paid, and participated in the activity. Payments are made by Honister monthly direct into your bank account.
It will be your responsibility to declare any income from Honister Affiliate Program.
How to get started
Getting started with the Honister Affiliate Program is easy:

- You will receive a call back to get you booked in for your free mine tour and other activity of your choice
- During your visit, we’ll allow some extra time to show you how the system works and give you your unique affiliate link and marketing materials to take away.
- You can start promoting Honister’s outdoor adventure experiences to your guests and start earning as soon as you walk away.
