Climb the Mine for an alternative view of the caverns
“Decided to take a stag group into the mine for the "Climb the mine" activity and was not disappointed! After a short walk into the mine following the old rails you reach the main cavern starting on the far wall you follow a via ferrata style climb up the cavern walls gripping onto large steel rings driven into the rock. Then traverse across the cavern ceilings on wire bridges etc. The guide was very friendly and helps guide people though, overall a great day and well worth the drive up from Keswick!”

Stag do - Via Feratta Extreme!
“Group of us went for the day, lots of snow on the motorway coming up so wasn't sure how well that would effect the climb. Luckily it made it amazing, I think this is a great outdoor activity whatever the weather...with the exception of gale force winds.

Natural elements apart, great fun! Our guide added to the enjoyment, by winding most people up at some point along the way. Sense of exposures brilliant and the rope bridge was a real rush, but felt perfectly safe all the way through. Surprised by how tiring it was though, definitely need to have a descent level of fitness. And topping off at the summit - the views are amazing.

Our Half-Day Adrenaline Blast includes The Infinity Bridge, Climb the Mine, and The Jump, plus lunch. The Full-Day Ultimate Stag & Hen experience adds Via Ferrata Xtreme and finishes with a hearty dinner at our sister pub, The Yew Tree. Both packages guarantee plenty of laughs, adrenaline, and unbeatable views!
Honister Slate Mine offers the best range of stag and hen activities set in the stunning Lake District. From tackling Europe’s longest high-wire bridge to exploring underground caverns and leaping from a 30m freefall jump, we’ve got thrilling, unforgettable experiences for every kind of group.

“We have a Cafe located within the main visitor area, known as “”The Bait Cabin””. It is open daily and serves a selection of homemade hot and cold food, including soups, bacon and sausage sandwiches and delicious homemade cakes. There is even a choice of festive hot chocolates and other treats.

We have plenty toilet facilities, including a baby changing area. Please note, there are no toilets or changing facilities once you set off on your adventure up the mountain, therefore it’s essential that you do toilet stops before you set off, and hence why we ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your activity starts.

We also have WiFi available to our customers, as well as parking facilities – FREE for our Santa visitors and £5 for all other cars.

“Honister’s Via Ferrata, Climb The Mine and Infinity Bridge activities do not require a high level of body strength, but some activities can be physically demanding and therefore do require reasonable levels of fitness. For more experienced climbers with higher levels of fitness, the Via Ferrata Xtreme is the choice for you.
