Saturday 12th November will see the return of the annual Vintage Sports Car Rally. Spectators are all welcome at Honister Slate Mine, the only official viewing location for the event, which provides the perfect setting to capture photographs of the cars on the day. Parking at Honister is £5 per vehicle.
Running all day, you’ll see beautiful classic racing cars, winding their way up Honister Pass and on to the hair pin bends up Fleetwith Pike. Over 100 exquisite examples of vintage sports cars from the 1920s and 30s will return. The vehicles will feature top classic racing cars including a 1920’s Bugatti Type 23, a 1927 Austin 7 and a 1930’s Chrysler 66 Sports.
Following a classic cruise through the spectacular landscape of the Lake District the drivers will assemble at the foot of Honister Pass, one of the highest roads in Cumbria with a gradient of 1-in-4 (25%) before making the ascent. Natural hazards include the snaking bends and Herdwick sheep roaming the open fells.Vehicles will be arriving at Honister Slate Mine – England’s oldest working slate mine and year round adventure attraction from 8am onwards.
