Because we're up a mountain, mains drinking water isn't available. Bottled water is.

Climb the Mine runs in all weather, you're underground! It's actually one of the best things to do on a rainy Lake District day.

We don't offer refunds, but if you cancel more than 48 hours before your activity we'll issue a voucher valid for 12 months. Cancellations within 48 hours don't qualify for a voucher.

Yes – the minimum age is 8 years old and minimum height is 1.3m. All under-16s must be accompanied by a participating adult (18+). Kids typically love every second of it.

A reasonable level of fitness helps, but this isn't a race. Climb the Mine is designed to be challenging and achievable, your guide sets the pace and supports everyone through the course.

Wear or bring sturdy boots or strong shoes. All essential equipment: harness, helmet, head torch, is provided by Honister on arrival. Dress in comfortable layers you don't mind getting dirty.

From Keswick:
Follow the B5289 through Borrowdale for about 5 miles until you reach Honister Pass.
Honister Slate Mine will be on your left.

From Penrith:
Follow the A66 westbound for approximately 17 miles to reach Keswick. 
From Keswick follow the B5289 into Borrowdale. 
Follow the B5289 for about 5 miles until you reach Honister Pass.
Honister Slate Mine will be on your left.

From Windermere:
Head north on the A591.
Continue on A591 for approximately 18 miles until you reach Keswick.
Follow the B5289 into Borrowdale.
Follow the B5289 for about 5 miles until you reach Honister Pass.

From Ambleside:
Head north on the A591.
Continue on A591 for approximately 18 miles until you reach Keswick.

We only cancel activities due to strong winds or electrical storms.

Honister reserves the right to make any operational changes at any time for safety or operational reasons. We may also alter or end activities early. 

If the weather does force us to cancel an activity, we will endeavour to contact customers prior to arrival and offer an alternative or opportunity to rebook. We do not offer refunds.
