Memories aren't made in comfort zones

Mark Weir reopened Honister with one idea, to take the grit and courage of Lakeland slate mining and turn it into adventures that stay with you for the rest of your life.

Founded on brave ideas

Honister slate has been worked from this pass for nearly four centuries. The mine, the quarry and the landscape around it tell a story of grit, community and craft that very few places in Britain can match. We haven't forgotten that, it shapes everything we do, from the adventures we offer to the slate gifts we sell.

Honister is run by a tight-knit team who know this mountain intimately, the guides who lead every adventure, the miners still working the slate, the café team fuelling visitors from the top of the pass. It's not a theme park. It's a working place, looked after by people who care deeply about what it is and what it could be.
