Working for us

Everything you should know

Thinking about applying but not sure what to expect? Here's the honest version.

Experience

Do you need experience to apply?

For most of our roles, attitude matters more than a CV. We train in-house wherever we can. The main exception is outdoor instructors, a 2-day First Aid certificate is required before you start, though you don't need to have it when you apply.

Hours

What are the working hours like?

We're a seven-days-a-week operation in peak season, so weekend availability is important, especially for outdoor instructor roles. Bar and kitchen shifts at the Yew Tree run Wednesday to Sunday. We'll always be upfront about shift patterns at interview stage.

Seasons

Is it seasonal work?

Some roles, particularly outdoor instructors, have a strong seasonal peak in summer. Others, including our slate production and pub roles, are year-round. We'll make it clear in each listing.

Location

Where is Honister?

We're at the top of Honister Pass, between Borrowdale and Buttermere in the Lake District. It's one of the most dramatic locations in England, but it does mean you'll need your own transport, or be happy with the dramatic drive in.

Applying

What's the application process?

Send your CV to prentice@honister.com with a note about which role you're interested in and why Honister. We'll be in touch within a few days. No covering letter required, just tell us something real.

Roles

Can you apply for more than one role?

Absolutely, mention all the roles you're interested in when you get in touch and we'll talk through the best fit. A lot of our team wear more than one hat.
